21-Day Fix Meal Plan: December 14, 2015

Week 6 of my Body Beast/21-Day Fix Extreme hybrid started this week.  Body Beast is unlike anything I've done so far and if this doesn't prepare me for Hammer and Chisel I don't know what will!  My team and I have already decided we will be running an EXCLUSIVE TEST group for Hammer and Chisel starting January 4th (more info at the bottom of this post!) Here is the meal plan I am following this week.  Each color represents a different color coded portion control container (keep scrolling for more info on my 21-Day Fix challenge groups).

I am following the 1800-2099 calorie bracket and eating on the regular 21-Day Fix meal plan, not the Extreme.  I am on the maintenance plan and am not eating at a deficit.  You will need to figure out the bracket that is right for you.  And if you are not already actively working with a Beachbody coach and you need help getting started, simply create a FREE Beachbody account with me as your coach HERE

Here are a couple of the recipes from this week: 

Honey Mustard Dressing

1/2 cup reduced fat Greek yogurt
3 TBSP Dijon Mustard
3 TBSP honey
3 TBSP rice vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
sea salt to taste

Combine all of the ingredients except for the olive oil, whisk well to combine.  Slowly add oil until well blended.

Strong Moms Online Accountability Group Starts January 4th, 2016!

Listen up Mommas!!  My next STRONG MOMS online support group starts 1/4/16.  It's time we put our health and happiness first.  As Mothers we care for everyone first and tend to put ourselves on the back burner. Some of us hate our bodies. Some have lost their identity and confidence. Some have no energy. IT'S TIME WE CHANGE THAT! I am here to empower you to make a change. {21-Day Fix Approved} Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Frosting

Oh my word.  Talk about good - my family had no idea it was a healthier cake made with all clean eating ingredients!  You'll flip over this vanilla cake with chocolate frosting!! 


If you follow the 21-Day fix meal plan, you'll be happy to know that this is 21-Day Fix APPROVED. In fact, it is from Autumn's new cookbook called Fixate!  I adapted it slightly, replacing the almond an coconut flour with white whole wheat flour.  


I honestly don't do much baking anymore so when this cookbook was released, with DESSERTS, I immediately had to try most of them.  And I have!  I will be sharing more of the recipes as I make them again.  In the meantime, if you'd like to purchase the cookbook itself, click HERE.  Um, did someone say Fix approved Skinny Cocktails???

Serves 12 

{21-Day Fix Approved} Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Frosting

1 1/2 cups white whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
3/4 cup unsalted organic butter, room temperature, divided
1 cup of honey (or maple syrup)
4 large eggs
1/4 cup + 3 tablespoons unsweetened almond milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Coat a 9-inch round cake pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.  Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl and mix well.  Set aside.

In a medium bowl, using an electric mixer, cream together 1/2 cup butter and 3/4 cup honey for 1 minute.  Add eggs 1 at a time, beat until blended.  Add flour mixture to butter mixture and beat until creamy.

Pour batter into prepared pan.  Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.  Cool on a baking rack.

Beat the remaining 1/4 cup butter in a medium bowl for 1 to 2 minutes or until creamy.  Add remaining 3 tablespoons of almond milk to butter and beat until blended.  Add cocoa powder, beat until blended, scraping down the sides of the bowl.

Slowly add the remaining 1/4 cup honey while beating on medium speed.  Once cake is cooled, evenly spread with frosting and cut into 12 slices.

3-Day Refresh - My Own Results and Why It's Amazing!

Thanksgiving week was...how shall I put this...maybe a little TOO fun.  My in-laws were visiting as they do every Thanksgiving and while I knew that I was going to indulge here and there and then on Thanksgiving day, what I didn't expect was that I was going to completely derail from my fitness goals.

Because here's the thing...one night with a few drinks and pizza turned into a few more nights of drinks and take-out, etc., etc.  Sweets once again became addicting, everything started to add up, and all the alcohol definitely slowed my metabolism.

The crazy thing is...I didn't miss one workout ALL week.  But they weren't effective.  As the saying goes, "you can't out exercise a bad diet."  So true!!  Plus, when I did "try" to exercise, I wasn't giving it my all because I was just sluggish.

I'm totally owning ALL of it.  And I knew that I was going to go all in with the 21-Day Fix meal plan starting that Monday, but man, I just needed to break this cycle fast.  So, I decided to do the one thing I've been too nervous to try first - the 3-Day Refresh.  Because that is exactly what it's for - to lose weight fast, but safe, and to break some bad habits (which were clearly starting to form again...ugh).

And here are my results!  Down 3 full inches on my waist.  I did not weigh myself - although I know I lost weight.  It wasn't the reason behind doing this so I didn't need to know! 


Day 1 was rough...I was tired and hangry (ha!) by the end of the day.  Day 2 was great!  I slept like a rock both nights actually, but I definitely had the most energy on Day 2.  I actually poured myself a cup of black coffee with stevia - which is refrained upon (allowed, but they suggest you drink green tea) - and didn't even DRINK it!! All my energy was completely natural.  I felt full and did great.  Day 3 was good, I definitely started to feel a little tired again by the end of the day.  I crashed hard that night and woke up feeling amazing the next morning!

I wanted to get rid of that horrible bloat and I'm thrilled with my results!  The important thing is that I've cleansed/reset my body to where it needs to be and I got rid of the toxins and "ick". 


It was tough, but I didn't feel hungry ALL the time.  The hardest parts for me were the morning and the few hours after dinner.  In the morning, you are only allowed Shakeology, green tea and the Fiber Sweep drink.  I could not WAIT until lunch when I could eat FOOD!  The few hours after dinner were hard and that was when I started to get irritable and feel like I could eat everything in the kitchen!  The best thing to do is to chug water and go to bed!

And water...SO so important on the Refresh.  Not only does it help keep the hunger away but it really gets that fiber working properly. 

I know I didn't have a ton of weight to lose, but I had to get rid of that awful bloat.  I'm back to practically where I was pre-Thanksgiving week.  I'm thrilled with my 3 inches lost - and I have other coaches on my team that did this the same time as me and one lost 5 pounds, the other 8!!

The next few weeks are about fueling my body right with the 21-Day Fix portion control containers and prepping for our January Hammer and Chisel challenge group!!  I'm currently doing a hybrid of Body Beast and the 21-Day Fix Extreme.
